On Friday 20th January 2014 Yr 4 teachers organised an India day for year 4 to link in with their geography topic. Each class did each activity at a time. The activities were Rangoli patterns with Mrs Tonge, Bollywood dancing with Mrs Neville, food tasting with Mrs Kermode and cricket with Mr Tebb. In Rangoli patterns we learnt about why they use Rangoli patterns and made our own.
When we did Bollywood dancing we learnt a dance and in groups made our own endings to the dance. As we danced to Bollywood music even the school dinner ladies joined in (they were very good).
In 4K’s classroom was food tasting. We got to try samples of lentil dal, poppadoms, naan bread and sauces. Some of the food was made by a couple of parents in 4K, a big thank you to them.
Another activity was cricket. We all took turns in being part of the batting team or the fielding team. Mr Tebb was the bowler and he was excellent!
We were allowed to wear different coloured clothes such as green, orange or white. These could have been t-shirts, jeans, tights, skirts, accessories and much more! Some children wore saris or other traditional Indian outfits.
We did no ‘normal’ lessons except we did have our registers and it was overall an exciting day!
