Spectacular Swimming Gala!
On Saturday the 21st March, the swim team went to a gala at the Black Lion Leisure Centre. We managed to bring home medals in 7 of the 13 events that took place. A few of us managed to get a personal best time.
To get everything started, in the first event, the mixed medley relay team secured our first medal with Alessio Tutt doing the backstroke, Anna Hawkins doing the breaststroke, Ben Langdown (one of the captains) doing butterfly and finally Matilda Barrett (the other captain) doing front crawl. We took third place after Tubbenden.
Next we had Ben Langdown doing 50 metres butterfly and getting a personal best time. He also got a medal for coming 5th. Competing in the same event we had Isabelle Stanton who unfortunately didn’t receive a medal but had a very strong swim.
Following on from that we moved on to the 50 metres breaststroke, in which we saw Jacob Bryant have a very promising swim but didn’t receive a medal. Despite having extremely tough competition, Anna Hawkins also had a great swim and came 5th, receiving a medal.
Moving on to the 50 metres backstroke, Alessio Tutt had a great swim and just managing to get hold of 6th place, which meant he got a medal. Then Emily Goff had an amazing swim and not only did she come fifth and get a medal, she also managed to get a p.b.
Soon after that we had the 50 metres front crawl in which we saw Matthew Bryant have a good swim but after coming in 13th didn’t get his hands on a medal. To conclude all of the individual races, again doing 50 metres front crawl, there was Matilda Barrett doing a great swim and coming fourth.
Next we had the boy’s medley relay, which was made up of Ben Langdown, Alessio Tutt, Jacob Bryant and Matthew Bryant. Despite having a good swim they sadly got disqualified.
Then there was the girl’s medley relay that was made up of Emily Goff, Lucy Howard, Matilda Barrett and Katie Gough. They had a good swim and were able to grab hold of 5th place.
Moving onto the last set of relays, we saw both the boys and girls miss out on a medal in the front crawl relay. Both teams swam well but the boys were closer to a medal and missing out on one by one place and came seventh. The girls missed out on a medal by three places and came ninth. The girl’s team was Lucy Howard, Isabelle Stanton, Katie Gough and Emily Goff and the boy’s team was Ben Langdown, Jacob Bryant, Matthew Bryant and Alessio Tutt.
All in all we had very successful day with most of us leaving with a smile on our faces and medals in our hands.
